1. Career Profile: Lena Danaia and Inquiry-Based Science Education

When Danaia went to college, she focused on becoming a teacher. While in the teacher-training program, she decided to do an honors year. She remembered how much she enjoyed reading about astronomy and her talks with her grandfather, and chose to get involved with the astronomy program. She had the opportunity to do an education-related project with a remote telescope. This reignited her passion for astronomy.

2. Renowned exoplanet researcher Sara Seager is bringing her quest to find another Earth back home to Canada

There’s no place like home. Unless, perhaps, your research involves finding a new home among the stars. But world-renowned exoplanet researcher Sara Seager says she's excited to be returning to her terrestrial home of Canada, after leaving the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) to go back to her alma mater, the University of Toronto.

3. Breaking the glass ceiling

On Tuesday 18 November, The Royal Society will be continuing celebrations to mark the 80th anniversary of the election of the first women Fellows of the Royal Society, with a one-day conference ‘Women in Science: historical perspectives’. The event is fully booked for in-person attendance, but will be live on YouTube.

4. NASA Announces Citizen Science Seed Funding Program

The Citizen Science Seed Funding Program aims to incubate citizen science projects as they are being conceived or during critical transitions, like the year when they are first launched or beta tested (i.e., when the first group of volunteers is invited to try the project) or when the project changes scientific direction.

5. NRAO Doctoral Dissertation Awards Open

The National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO) and the Associated Universities, Inc. (AUI) are pleased to announce the availability of the 2025 NRAO Doctoral Dissertation Award based on new radio astronomy data obtained at any facility operated or jointly operated by a US-based institution. The award is available to any recent recipient, of any nationality, who has received a doctoral degree from any recognized degree-granting institution in the United States.
