1.  CSWA Activities at the January 2018 AAS meeting

The Committee on the Status of Women in Astronomy (CSWA) is sponsoring two events at the American Astronomical Society's (AAS) winter meeting in January. Both are scheduled for Thursday, January 11.  The first will be a special session from 2:00 - 3:30 p.m., in Potomac 1-2, entitled "The AAS Committee on the Status of Women: Then and Now and Where Do We Go from Here?"

2. L'Oréal USA For Women in Science Fellowships Login

The L’Oréal USA Fellowships for Women in Science program is now accepting applications. This program annually recognizes and rewards five U.S.-based women scientists at the start of their career (i.e., recent PhDs). Awards up to $60,000 must be put towards postdoctoral research.

3. 2018 Space Astronomy Summer Program

The Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI) is the scientific operations center for the Hubble Space Telescope and the future James Webb Space Telescope. Students can work individually with STScI researchers and staff on research projects that might include data reduction and interpretation, software development, scientific writing and preparing data for public releases. The summer projects will focus on Astrophysics, Engineering, Instrumentation or Public Outreach. Students will also be afforded the opportunity to attend lectures on a variety of exciting topics related to space astronomy, the Hubble, and James Webb Space Telescopes.

4. American Girl's New NASA-Advised Doll is Aspiring Astronaut

Meet Luciana Vega, the “American Girl” who’s going to Mars.

Says Katy Dickson, president of American Girl: "Luciana is a role model for today's girls, empowering them to defy stereotypes, and embrace risks that will teach them about failure and success as they chart their own course in life, whatever the goal.
