1. Career Profile: Planetary Geologist: Dr. Justin Filiberto
From: Christina Richey via womeninastronomy.blogspot.com

The AAS Committee on the Status of Women in Astronomy and the AAS Employment Committee have compiled dozens of interviews highlighting the diversity of career trajectories available to astronomers, planetary scientists, etc. The interviews share advice and lessons learned from individuals on those paths.

Below is our interview with Justin Filiberto, a planetary scientist/geologist working at Southern Illinois University and The Open University.

For access to all our Career Profile Project interviews, please visit http://aas.org/jobs/career-profiles. New Career Profiles are posted approximately every month.

2. The Limit Does Not Exist: Creative Brainpower And Badass Women In STEM
From: Cristina Thomas [cthomas_at_psi.edu]

"The industry demands that you know how to do everything and you are able to connect all the dots. This is why that multidisciplinary aspect of design is absolutely crucial." Amanda Phingbodhipakkiya, our guest on this week's episode of The Limit Does Not Exist, understands the power of a multidisciplinary approach. A ballerina turned neuroscientist turned creative director, Phingbodhipakkiya has found a multitude of ways to pair design with science and entrepreneurism and more.

Case in point? Beyond Curie, the design project she's created to highlight badass women in science, technology, engineering and mathematics—women who haven't had as bright spotlight on them as Marie Curie, and who deserve recognition and praise for their work. (In case you were wondering, Grace Hopper is one of the Beyond Curie scientists Phingbodhipakkiya has featured, alone with Mae Jemison, Maryam Mirzakhani and many more.) If the images look familiar, it may be because Beyond Curie has has been featured in places like Fast Company, Smithsonian Magazine and Glamour and recently partnered with the March for Science.

4. This Magazine Is For Girls Who Unapologetically Love Science
From: Cristina Thomas [cthomas_at_psi.edu]

by Taylor Pittman

“After realizing most magazine stands lacked publications for girls who are passionate about science, a mom of two has started one that encourages them to “embrace their intelligence.”

Sarita Menon is the founder and editor of Smore magazine, which inspires girls to pursue science and other related fields. Last year, Menon saw a photo that went viral on social media that showed the cover of a Boys’ Life magazine next to the cover of a Girls’ Life magazine. According to the covers, boys were interested in exploring their future, while girls were into fall fashion and their “dream hair.” That side-by-side image stuck with Menon and inspired her to start Smore.”
