I see lots of male grad students around me that seem oblivious to the idea that they might not get a faculty job, and they hate to discuss other career options because they just "aren't as good." Meanwhile, my female colleagues constantly struggle with the confidence they need to even stay in the program. I think this translates easily into a lack of confidence in our chances of getting research jobs, which then leads to our not applying for those jobs. We can, of course, encourage men to look at alternative careers (and I know by meeting them that plenty of men have ended up in alternative careers), but that solves only half the problem, at best. How do we raise women's confidence?Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02644701274322579060noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6374266320411149509.post-3009746371864753382010-03-18T05:46:12.641-04:002010-03-18T05:46:12.641-04:00This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6374266320411149509.post-29971941758297367072010-03-18T05:46:12.640-04:002010-03-18T05:46:12.640-04:00This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
