If not, who watched your kids during business meetings? As you know, the reality of many academics, particularly women, is that spouses have their own careers that are at least as demanding as the professoriate. I can't imagine that my husband would use one of his 10 vacation days per year to come on a retreat like this, when those precious days are already earmarked for our twice-yearly trips to visit distant family (which requires a week to make the trip worthwhile). It's a nice concept, but I think there are logistical issues in addition to the cost issue you've already acknowledged. Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
