I didn't have any women STEM role models growing up, but I don't think that "femininity" would have been detrimental to my wanting to be a scientist!Lisahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05691186734653500756noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6374266320411149509.post-80313893995271594632012-06-30T02:28:54.649-04:002012-06-30T02:28:54.649-04:00This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.Vicki Mabreyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04531507707180747387noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6374266320411149509.post-66499532145429577572012-06-22T21:10:51.031-04:002012-06-22T21:10:51.031-04:00Wow! Having gotten a chance to look under the hood of this study, so to speak, I wonder how it even passed peer review. I think that if the subjects of this study (the girls that were interviewed) were galaxies, my paper would have been rejected and I would have been told to get a better sample. I consider myself feminine or "girlie" - I do my hair and make-up, am interested in fashion, and wear high-heels. I also have a career in science outreach.

What it all comes down to is as long as we are being our authentic selves, we can be good role models. Not everyone needs or envisions the exact same type of role model. We need to show the vast variety of people who are interested in and do science.Alyssahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01695509619557410413noreply@blogger.com
